AusTex Printing & Mailing

Declaration of Heritage

Copywriting and Art Direction by Martin Manuel.

The Gutenberg Bible was the first major book to be reproduced on a printing press.
With the birth of movable type in 1455, the power of duplication transformed the
art of printing into a platform for publishing and communication.

Fast-forward through the European Renaissance and the Age of Enlightenment,
and you're left with lots of folks saying lots of interesting things. The simple act
of communicating morphed into the art of persuasion, and printing evolved from
letterpress to lithography with the discoveries of German inventor, Alois Senefelder.
Following the Industrial Revolution there was more to talk about and
even more stuff to sell. Even news of current events became a product,
and in 1819 the Texas Republican became our state's first newspaper.

In 1836, headlines read "The Texas Revolution," and the newly formed
Republic of Texas needed a capital city. The quiet village of Waterloo was
fingered and promptly renamed Austin. A.J. Zilker bought Barton Springs from
"Uncle Billy" Barton and gave it to the city. Stephen F. Austin commissioned
the Texas Rangers, and Austin's first power plant powered over thirty
moonlight towers around the city. The turn of the century brought economic
growth by rail and intellectual pursuit with the University of Texas.
Austin was beaming with ambition.

The 20th Century brought rapid advancements in the arts, social liberation
and global economics. Arguably, the most significant development of the late
20th Century was seen in the impact of technology on the daily lives of Austinites.
While technology has increased our ability to communicate, Texans are known for
their ability to cut through the clutter. As such, it's more important than ever
to be original and authentic to make a genuine impression.

Aus-Tex Printing & Mailing first opened its printing plant in downtown
Austin in 1946. Since mid-century, Aus-Tex has continually grown to
integrate more services and expand our capabilities. We're printers at heart
with an eye for clever design, but at our core we're super creative,
incredibly smart folks working relentlessly to help our customers grow.

We believe that authenticity speaks loudest.
We believe true character is something tangible.
We believe results are best held in your own two hands.
